Hey isn’t that… First lady Michelle Obama spending a quiet weekend in Middleburg with daughters Malia and Sasha in tow at the tony Salamander Resort.
While the president was being trailed by flashing cameras and notebook-wielding reporters on a four-country tour through Asia, Michelle Obama’s itinerary was a tad bit more low-key. On Friday she was spotted in the lobby of the luxury resort owned by multimillionaire Sheila Johnson.
Low key indeed, rooms at the Salamander Resort located where the horsey set of Virginia call home start at $814 a night, although I’m sure Michelle and the girls didn’t settle for those budget digs, not if even better rooms where available.
But when you consider that the room at the Westin Chaoyang Hotel in Beijing where Michelle and the girls stayed during their recent China trip cost $8,400 a night, whatever us taxpaying dolts shelled out for a weekend at the Salamander must qualify as a bargain.
We still don’t have a full accounting of her Chinese
vacation cultural exchange but the two days she and her entourage spent at the Shangri-La Hotel in the city of Chengdu cost $222,000.
We may never know exactly how much our high maintenance imperial first family cost us and whatever we do learn probably won’t be fully disclosed until after they leave office, but I wouldn’t be the least surprised if it’s a number well North of a billion dollars. More than all the first families in the history of the United States combined.
