From Dallas News.com:
An 11-year-old girl was taken into custody early Saturday after she stabbed a sleeping family member nine times in their Oak Cliff apartment, police say.
The victim, 41-year-old Toshia Edmonson, was in serious but stable condition at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
Police said that because the suspect is a minor, they could not release her name or specify her relationship to Edmonson.
“It’s family violence. That’s all I can say,” police spokeswoman Monica Cordova said.
The girl was dropped off at Edmonson’s apartment on Village Fair Drive near Interstate 35E and Ledbetter Drive about 11:45 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. The girl told police that she was angry to be home and that Edmonson reacted by shoving her into a sofa and threatening to “give her away.”
After Edmonson went to sleep, the girl got a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her in the head, neck and shoulder, the report said.
The attack ended after Edmonson grabbed the knife and another person in the apartment ran for help.
The girl was charged with family violence aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
